Inner Line Permit for Arunachal Pradesh: The Complete 2025 Guide

Everything you need to apply — documents, fees, processing time, and what happens if you arrive without one.

The Basics

What is the Inner Line Permit?

The Inner Line Permit (ILP) is a travel document required by the Government of India for any Indian citizen travelling to Arunachal Pradesh who is not a resident of the state.

The permit restricts the areas you can visit and the duration of your stay. Without it, you cannot enter the state — and checkpoints verify it at every entry point.

It is not difficult to get — but it takes 3–7 working days if you apply online, and you need the right documents. We handle the entire process for you.

Eligibility

Who needs an ILP?

You NEED an ILP if you are:

  • An Indian citizen from any state other than Arunachal Pradesh
  • Travelling to any district in Arunachal Pradesh
  • Entering by road, air, or rail

You do NOT need an ILP if:

  • A resident of Arunachal Pradesh (with domicile certificate)
  • A government official on official duty (with orders)

Foreign nationals require a Protected Area Permit (PAP) — a separate, more complex process.

Application

How to apply — step by step

  1. 1

    Visit the official ILP portal

Go to arunachal.nic.in/ilp (the official Government of Arunachal Pradesh portal). Do not use third-party sites that charge extra.

  2. 2

    Register and fill the form

Enter your name, Aadhaar number, travel dates, and destination district. Upload a photo and your Aadhaar scan.

  3. 3

    Pay the fee

₹100 per person for the online ILP. Pay via net banking, UPI, or card. Keep the payment receipt.

  4. 4

    Wait for approval

Processing takes 3–7 working days for online applications. You receive the ILP via email.

  5. 5

    Print and carry it

Print a physical copy. Checkpoints at Bhalukpong, Nechiphu, and Sela will verify it. A digital copy on your phone is not always accepted.

What to Watch Out For

Common mistakes and how to avoid them

Applying too late

Apply at least 10 working days before departure. The portal can take 7 days and sometimes longer.

Uploading blurry Aadhaar scans

Use a clear, lit photo of the physical card — both sides. Blurry scans are the most common rejection reason.

Wrong travel dates on the form

Dates must match your travel plan exactly. A mismatch at the checkpoint means you cannot enter.

Assuming one ILP covers a family

Every person — including children — needs their own ILP. There are no family group permits.

Not carrying a printed copy

Some checkpoints accept digital, others require print. Carry both. Do not rely only on your phone.
